Ok, I’m Interested. Tell Me How You Do It!
We remove any silicone caulk that is on the tub or tile. We usually remove any drain covers such as a hair strainer and over flow cover, and we block these openings to prevent particles of old paint from clogging your drain.
We then set up a high-volume ventilation system and vent to the outside, through either a window or door nearest the bathroom. This is done with a professional ventilation system made especially for our industry.
The surrounding areas are then covered with paper and / or plastic and attached using masking tape to protect the immediate area from overspray. We use painters tape on all painted surfaces.
The bathtub is then cleaned with our specially formulated cleaner using an abrasive scrub pad and wet / dry sandpaper. The surface is sanded to a smooth finish, and any defects are then filled and sanded smooth until they are unnoticeable.
The drain is then covered with masking tape and the surface is dried with an alcohol based prep agent to remove any impurities. In addition, the surface is wiped down with a dust eliminating tack cloth.
At this point, we inspect the surface to make sure all imperfections have been addressed, to ensure that the tub is ready for the final steps of refinishing. We then spray the tub with TWO (2) coats of our adhesion promoting primer.
After the primer has had enough time to cure, we then finish off with a minimum of FIVE (5) coats of a thick high gloss Acrylic Urethane finish. This is sprayed on in a series of light coats to prevent any drips or runs.
Typically, the average life span of a refinished bathtub is approximately 10 to 15 Years!
Sounds Great So Far! I Have A Few Questions…
Q: What is Reglazing?
A. The reglazing process uses a sprayed on Acrylic Urethane that restores your bathtub to a beautiful and easy to clean finish. The Acrylic Urethane glaze, which can be ordered to match existing fixtures, dries hard to maximize its durability.
Q: Isn\’t it cheaper to just buy a new bathtub?
A. When you compare estimates for the total cost of the installation of a new bathtub with our price, you will find that TubKote will save you substantial time and money. If you have an older porcelain or cast iron bathtub, it is far superior in quality to the lower price replacement bathtubs on the market today.
Q: How long does it take to reglaze my bathtub?
A. Normally, between 3-4 hours, depending on the condition of the tub. If the bathtub has been previously reglazed it will take an additional 1-2 hours to strIp the bathtub. Most of the time is spent preparing the bathtub for the reglazing process. The whole reglazing process will be completed all on the same day.
Q: What about caulking?
A. When we prepare your tub for refinishing, we remove all the old caulk. Many of our competitors do what we believe is only a partial job of refinishing, and force you to re-caulk after they leave. Or, they will return the next day and happily charge you extra to re-caulk your tub. With our process, however, we are able to re-caulk your tub before we leave, saving you time and money. We make it convenient for you to do business with TubKote.
Q: Is there anything we (the customer) need to do before you arrive?
A. Yes. You should clean your tub the night before, or the morning of, the appointment. It is important that there are no leaking faucets, showerheads, or fixtures. Also, all loose items need to be removed from the bathroom and all counters should be cleared. A thorough dusting of the room will be helpful also.
Q: Why do other companies charge different prices?
A. Like everything else, you get what you pay for. Cheaper prices could mean:
1. Shortcuts have been taken in their process
2. They are using inferior products (some companies actually use products homeowners can buy on Amazon.com!)
3. Ventilation systems may be sub-par, or non-existent
4. You are receiving less of a Warranty – five years or even less
5. You have to wait 24 hours to use your refinished tub (ours can be used in 6 hours!)
6. Other companies may have much higher overhead costs
We here at TubKote refuse to compromise on materials, procedures or equipment. This may cost us a few more dollars, but makes us confident to put our name and our EIGHT (8) YEAR WARRANTY on our completed projects. The final product will be something you can be proud of, and be happy with for many years.

You Just Reglazed My Bathtub, Now What?
To protect the beauty, value and life of your newly refinished tub, we offer these tips of care and maintenance in caring for your refinished tub:
We will remove all masking paper and tape, as long as it does not interfere with the curing of the coating. In the rare instance we cannot remove masking paper and tape, you may remove it after TWENTY FOUR (24) hours.
Tub will be ready for use after SIX (6) hours.
Due to the non-porous surface of the finish, there is no need to use abrasive cleaners on the refinished bathtubs. See our recommended list of cleaners below for excellent results.
All organic coatings must cure. They start to cure at the time of application and must cure for a total of approximately 30 days.
Tips for Your Refinished Bathtub:
- DO NOT use your refinished bathtub or shower for a minimum of SIX (6) hours .
- Do not scrub clean your newly refinished tub for at least one week. Even though the coating is dry enough to use after SIX (6) hours, it is still curing (hardening) for a week after.
- DO NOT leave soap or bottles or any objects on the finish at any time!
- DO NOT let a leaky faucet go un-repaired.
- DO NOT use abrasive cleaners. NO S-O-S Pads. NO Comet.
- DO NOT use appliqués or loose bath mats with suctions underneath.
- The best way to keep your tub clean is to wipe it down with a towel after each use. You don’t have to wipe it dry.
- Maintain caulking around the tub.
- For cleaning, we recommend Soft Scrub without Bleach.
- Wax tub once every 4 months with a urethane polish (Such as Nu-Finish or Turtle Wax 2001).
- Rust from shaving lotion cans may stain surface if allowed to sit for long periods of time.
- Damage may occur to any refinished surface when exposed to extreme heat. Please keep hot objects away from the refinished item.
- A slip resistant surface is applied with every tub. YOU MUST STILL USE CAUTION when using the bathtub. The slip resistant surface will only aid to prevent slips and falls and we are not responsible for any accidents, which may occur.
- Don\’t clean your dogs in the tub. Their nails can scratch the finish.
Although the finish is very durable please note the following:
As part of the normal refinishing process, there will be a settling of dust and particulates onto the tub coating after refinishing is complete – even with the very best ventilation system. There is no way to prevent this, as we are not working in a 100 % dust free environment. When this happens, the surface will invariably feel slightly “gritty” to the touch. This often works itself out over time with normal use and cleaning – usually 2 to 4 months, depending on use. ***DO NOT TRY REMOVING ANY PARTICLES BY PICKING AT THEM (See Below).
Use the same care you would use to wash the hood of a new car. Never use abrasive cleaners! The refinished surface is non-porous; a mild, non-abrasive soap combined with a soft cloth and water will clean your tub (Soft Scrub Without Bleach).
A good rinsing after each shower or bath will keep soap from building up on the surface. Clean the surface with a sponge or a cloth. Scouring pads can scratch the surface which could cause soap build-up.
***Many customers desire a Detailed and Polished surface right away, and we offer that service for our customers. TubKote can return up to 30 days, but not sooner than 48 hours, after refinishing, to Detail and Polish your tub for a nominal charge. This process will remove any dust or particulates that may have fallen onto the coating, increase the gloss and shine of your tub, and help create the experience you are after. Contact TubKote for pricing specific to your tub. We want to do all we can to make sure you are 100% pleased and love your PRISTINE refinished tub!
